WEEKEND UPDATES
Weekend results through Sunday, June 2
Birmingham Legion
Legion was on the road for the second weekend in a row. Their previous two games were against league-leading Charleston and Sacramento, while this match was against El Paso, who sits last in the league. Legion has been in good defensive form the past couple of weeks, and needed to see if they could put some goals together. Bham was pretty dominant throughout the game, keeping up the good work on defense, and finding the back of the net three times. A very good performance overall, winning 3-1.
Huntsville City
This was Huntsville's best chance so far to pick up a win this season. Carolina Core was motivated by the excitement surrounding thier first-ever home game, so I expected this to be a close match. Huntsville had thier best game of the season, winning 4-1. One of the newest signings, Pasnik, scored a goal.
USL2
Dothan United
The Dragons were on the road again, facing Tennessee SC. TN has been a tougher opponent at home than when they're on the road. Dothan continued to show their quality, and put together a 2-1 win. That gives them a sweep over Tennessee for the season.
GCPL
Alabama FC South
ALFCS went on the road against Florida Roots to shoot for the first place slot in the division. See the special GCPL report from yesterday for details.
The ALFCS reserves hosted the ASG Battle Lions on Sunday, the first match for both teams. ALFCS 2 came away with the win 2-1.
AFC Mobile
AFC made the trip into SW Georgia to face the Turtle Club. The Sowegans pounded AFC last week 9-1, and didn't let up this week. AFC loses 0-7, and is still looking for some way to stop the bleeding.
The Union 10 match against Pensacola Bay United was postponed, to be played on June 3.
UPSL
FC Birmingham faced Dalton United in the matinee game for the state on Saturday. FCB had seen an improvement in form, and moved towards the middle of the table. But Dalton proved to be too much, beating FCB 4-0.

Columbus United
United finally brought the show home for the first time, in a rematch with Naples, who was the divisional champion in 2023. CU began the season with three straight draws - all on the road. Hitchcock teams are known for being high quality, and also for generating big support, and this first home game was the first test to see how the support is shaping up. They got a great crowd of over 2100 fans, who saw Columbus get the win, 2-0.
