FC Birmingham faced off against Fountain City on Saturday evening down in the Adjacency. FCB took a lead in the first half that they were able to carry into halftime. The game was very back-and-forth, and then Birmingham got a second goal at the beginning of stoppage time. FC Birmingham takes the points in this first-ever meeting, 2-0.
FCB2 picked up three points away against Middle Georgia United. The win is an important step in keeping playoff hopes alive. FCB2 wins 2-0.
The Adjacency
FC Columbus Elite pulled off a big upset on the road against Filial Pachuca Georgia. Pachuca was the top team in the division, and Elite shut them down with a 1-0 clean sheet victory. Elite moves up into fourth place, just ahead of Columbus Knight Eagles.
Speaking of the Eagles, they were on the road against Atlanta Ignite, who entered the weekend in second place. Ignite has been much like Pachuca, scoring a lot of goals, while giving up very few (only 8 this season). CKE wasn't able to pull off the upsst, but they did have a great showing. The Eagles lose 3-5.
Other Notes and tidbits
North Texas SC defeated Philadelphia Union II 3-2 to win the MLS NextPro championship. It was a come from behind victory for the hosts, who trailed 0-2 at halftime. As an interesting side note, the game was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. NextPro teams don't crossover East/West during the regular season, and their earliest seasons saw them playing in different leagues. North Texas was previously in USL League One, and Union II was previously in USL Championship.
Rhode Island FC knocked off Lousville City 3-0 in the USL Championship playoffs. Alabama native, and former Legion player, JJ Williams scored two goals.
