FC Birmingham was on the road to face Soccer Saves Lives. SSL is near the bottom of the table, and FCB was looking to solidify their playoff positioning. FCB came away with three points, winning 1-0, and guarantees a spot in the playoffs.
The Adjacency
Fountain City FC was looking to bounce back after losing to FC Birmingham the previous week. Fountain traveled to face Georgia Athletic Soccer, a team that's been just below the cutoff for the playoffs. Fountain City loses 1-3. The lone goal was scored by Shytle, giving him 11 for the Fall. With one game remaining, Fountain appears to be safe for the remaining playoff position, and Birmingham's win appears to have eliminated Athletic.
The Lower Alabama clash of the week was at FC Columbus Elite, against FC Birmingham 2. Elite put together another strong performance, winning 3-0. [Update] Elite's win moved them up to third place in the table, in striking distance for a tie at the top.
[Update] Columbus Knight Eagles crushed Club the Strongest 8-0, at home. CKE is safely in playoff position in fifth place, and will finish the Fall season next week against first place Filial Pachuca Georgia.
Other news and tidbits
Dalton United was eliminated in the final round of qualifying for the 2025 Open Cup, losing to Southern Indiana FC.
Rhode Island FC continued their amazing run in the USL Championship playoffs, beating Charleston 2-1. They will travel to Colorado Springs to play for the league championship. The biggest thing to contend with there is the altitude of around 6000 feet, the highest for a professional soccer club in the United States. In their previous meeting back in May, Colorado Springs won 3-1.
