I'm definitely disappointed, but there's also a reality that goes with it. Legion had so many issues last season with injuries, among other things, and steps to improve things by getting a deeper and larger roster. And now, heading into the third regular season game, we're thin again. I truly love the Open Cup, but the club needs to have a good season. I'll take the loss if it means there's a better chance to succeed going forward.
That being said, the reality here is that this loss is worse than Richmond's. Legion lost to a team that's two divisions below them. If the players on our roster should (mostly) be expected to step in and play in a league game, they should be able to beat an amateur team.
We should be getting players back soon. Tregarthen was on the bench last night, but probably would have been a last resort. Trejo should be back soon. Pasher could possibly be back as soon as Saturday. Kavita likely won't be back for about a month. Paterson will be June or July.
Sorry for the Legion cupset disappointment. Two thoughts that may bring solace:
1. People have short memories --by June, B'ham will be able to look back and laugh, for "comedy = tragedy + time" , as the famous saying goes.
2. Tonight could have been worse. For example, the Richmond Kickers suffered a far worse humiliation!
