Mid-week updates
Dothan United and Legion 2 get slow starts
All games from Wed, May 15th
Birmingham Legion
The Legion were called to a tough task, on weary legs. They hosted league-best Charleston Battery, who had the weekend off after an extra-time win last week in the Open Cup. Legion used a similar gameplan to the one they used against the Rowdies on Saturday in that 1-0 win. They made a good showing, and largely held Battery at bay. But a late goal on a beautiful dummy brought three points to the visitors. Birmingham loses 0-1.
USL2
Birmingham Legion 2 - the Hammers
Legion 2 had their inaugural game against East Atlanta FC. The parent club is guilty of a nearly complete lack of information regarding the team, and there was zero hype. After an initial announcement that the team would play this year (and even that was after the team showed up on the USL2 site), the team wasn't mentioned again until this Monday. It's a shame, because the team is probably going to be pretty good. In a hard-fought match, the Hammers got a 1-1 draw.
Dothsn United Dragons
After the friendly draw against Brave SC this past weekend, my expectations are running high. A little bit of cold water was thrown on that as the Dragons got a 0-0 draw against Southern Soccer Academy. On the other hand, the organization showed their resolve by live-streaming the game on Facebook from someone's phone. The streaming feed was not working on the SportsEngine Play site, so the Dragons improvised.
