Small slate, and some big matches

Birmingham Legion
Legion has been playing great defense lately, and have had some minor spurts of offense. They went on the road to face Detroit City, a team that Legion had never beaten. This was an extremely physical match from the beginning, and the fouls were flying in front of a great crowd (the game was nationally televised, and the supporters showed up in big way). A Detroit defender came forward into the attack, and got the first goal of the game. Detroit took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half continued the physical play, with bodies flying around. At around the 70 minute mark, Birmingham made two substitutios players that turned out to be pivotal. The two new players changed the dynamic, and allowed one of the Legion midfielders to come forward into the attack. Legion got their first goal after a recycle of a corner kick, where Detroit left themselves flat-footed. The goal was scored by Dodson, who is a defender that was acquired on loan from MLS just a few games ago. Then, in stoppage time, Legion got a second goal off of another corner kick. That goal came after a chaotic scramble, and was scored by one of the center backs (the team captain). Legion wins 2-1. All three goals were scored by defenders.

[Update] AFC Mobile was on the road Wed night at Pensacola Bay United. PBU got an early goal in the first half, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. AFC played tough, but couldn't find an answer. They gave up two more goals, losing 0-3. It's not the result they wanted, but they have continued to improve throughout the season.
Union 10 had a tough test on the road against first place Sowegans. Union handed the Turtles their only loss in the first game of the season, and were looking to move up in the table. Sowegans would have none of it. The turtles got out to an early lead and went into halftime up 2-0. They would tack on another goal in the second half, and win 3-0. The win clinches the East for Sowegans and should set them up to be the top seed in the playoffs. Union stays at third in the table, but still has a chance to hop over ALFCS and secure a home game for the playoffs.
Other news and tidbits
Birmingham Legion WFC faced Tennessee SC at home in a game that was threatened to be delayed by weather. But the storms held off, and they were able to play without delay. TN is the top team in the divsion, undefeated for the season. This game showed the quality that Legion has, even though overall results have fallen short. This was a tight match throughout, and the Three Sparks kept TN bottled up for large stretches of time. Legion fought hard, but lose 1-2.

DCFC came out with great energy but started to get complacent in the 2nd half, and then seemed gutted by the equalizer with just minutes left in the game, followed shortly by another losing goal.
On a happier note, indeed it was a full house, standing room only at the game. 6244 fans in attendance!
