Legion hosted Chattanooga FC for a friendly, open for season ticket holders. The event was held at the Legion training facility, and also served as a test-drive for hosting Open Cup games, as well as home games for Legion 2 and Legion WFC. The turnout was good, the weather was great, and it was a good match.
Through the first half, Legion by far had the higher number of chances, but the Chattanooga keeper made save after save. The score was tied at 1-1 at half.
The second half started out with a quick score by CFC, and then Legion tied it up on a PK by Dourado after Rufe was fouled in the box. The Legion attack continued to look very potent, but Chattanooga got another goal on a great counter, with a key pass from Nagelstad. CFC took the win at 3-2.
There were a few trialists that were not present that played in the first friendly. Looks like 3-4 were cut during the week. There was a nice meet and greet after, which brought some other news. Two of Legion's returning players are recovering from surgery, one of which will be out throughout the Spring. The other is expected back early in the regular season.
Also, it was confirmed that Darwin Matheus has parted ways with the club. He came in late last season and made an immediate impact. There had been hope that his absence meant he was being sold, but it sounds like he has parted ways, and is looking for a club.
Next week's friendly against Red Wolves is expected to be closed, and then the last friendly will be against Huntsville. A few signings should be announced soon, as it sounds like some of the trialists are actually signed now. If anything, Legion has more great players in camp than they can actually sign, which is a good problem to have.
